Night Dive at Basurw
First night dive of the trip and it did not disappoint. Basura lives up to its reputation as one of the best muck sites in the Philippines.
Within the first five minutes we had a stargazer half-buried in the sand, a bobbit worm with its jaws open, and a coconut octopus carrying around a plastic cup like a hermit crab. Classic Anilao chaos.
Spent most of the dive between 8 and 12 meters working the sandy slope. The flashlight fish were out in force — their bioluminescence is something you just can’t capture on camera but it’s mesmerizing in person.
Best shot of the night: a flamboyant cuttlefish walking across the sand in full display colors. Managed to get the 105mm dialed in and fired off about 40 frames. At least two or three should be portfolio-worthy.
Heading to Sombrero Island tomorrow for some wide angle if the weather holds.
